PM reviews Cyclone Tauktae damage

Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducts an aerial survey of areas affected by the Cyclone Tauktae in Gujarat and Diu along with state chief minister Vijay Rupanion Wednesday.

22 DEATHS ON BARGE

Around 22 bodies of out of the 75 people missing from the barge that sank in the Arabian Sea after getting caught in Cyclone Tauktae have been fished out and confirmed dead, an official said. Fifty-three persons remain missing, he said. The barge ‘Papaa-305’ had 261 persons on board. Of these, 186 were rescued.

CYCLONE TOLL UP

As many as 45 people have been killed due to cyclone Tauktae across 12 districts of Gujarat, officials said on Wednesday. Fifteen deaths were reported from Amreli district in Saurashtra region, the worst affected in the cyclone While 24 deaths were due to wall collapses, six died after trees fell on them, official said

RELIEF PACKAGE

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday conducted held a meeting with top officials in Gujarat to review the situation in the wake of Cyclone Tauktae. He announced a financial assistance of ₹1,000 crore for Gujarat, as well as ₹2 lakh ex-gratia compensati­on for the kin of the deceased and ₹50,000 for those injured.
