High court seeks state and Centre’s response on vaccinatio­n of migrants from Pakistan

The Rajasthan High Court has sought responses from the state and central government in three days regarding the vaccinatio­n of Pakistani minority migrants.

In the absence of Aadhaar card, thousands of Pakistani migrants living in the state have been denied Covid-19 vaccinatio­n.

In the HC division bench, comprising Justice Sangeet Lodha and Justice Rameshwar Vyas, amicus curiae Sajjan Singh Rathore gave details of the situation of Pakistani minority migrants.

Giving additional submission­s, he said that Pakistani migrants are facing many challenges during the lockdown imposed in the state to break the chain of coronaviru­s infection. 24.” During the hearing, amicus curiae Rathore, while referring to the news published in Hindustan Times on May 13, said that the state and central government started the drive of vaccinatin­g the citizens of the country with the Covid-19 vaccine and a large number of citizens have taken the vaccine, including the poor and vulnerable class of citizens.

But the poor and vulnerable Pakistan migrants who are staying in India either on shortterm visa or long-term visa are still waiting for these vaccine camps to get vaccinated.

The vaccine is given on the registrati­on through Aadhar and since these Pakistan migrants are not having the Aadhaar Card are not given vaccines.

It is worth mentioning that according to the home department, 22,146 Pakistani migrants in Rajasthan are on long-term visas (LTVS). Seemant Lok Sangathan, which is fighting for the basic rights of Pakistani migrants, estimates that the number of Pakistani minority migrants (including LTV holders) residing in Rajasthan is more than 25,000.

According to the medical department, about 17,180 Pakistani migrants reside in 24 slums in Jodhpur alone.
