HC rejects Asaram’s bail applicatio­n

JODHPUR: The Rajasthan High Court on Friday dismissed Asaram Bapu’s plea for interim bail to pursue medical treatment through Ayurveda in Haridwar.

The court’s rejection came after perusal of the rape convict’s medical report submitted by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Jodhpur, which found his condition to be stable.

Asaram was admitted to AIIM after contractin­g Covid-19.

Passing the judgement, a division bench comprising justices Sandeep Mehta and Devendra Kachhawaha directed the district and prison authoritie­s to ensure proper treatment of Asaram at a suitable medial institutio­n in light of the observatio­ns made in the medical report.

It shall be ensured that no sooner, the convict is lodged back at jail after recovery, he will be provided proper treatment, nutritious diet and safe environmen­t looking to his old age and medical condition,” HC said.

Asaram’s counsel JS Choudhary told HC that the convict has expressed his desire in writing that he does not want to take allopathic treatment and instead, his followers may be allowed to set up a a medical facility at his Ashram at Pal village, Jodhpur so that he can get ayurvedic treatment.
