ILLICIT LIQUOR WORTH ₹22 LAKH SEIZED IN BARMER
Illicit liquor worth ₹22 lakh was seized in Barmer, district excise officer Devendra Dasora said on Saturday.
“Following an input on Friday, we put up a barricade near Pachpadra mega highway near Bhandiyawas village. We stopped a truck and conducted a search. During the search, we found 390 cartons of liquor, which was hidden under sacks of plastic pipes,” Dasora said.
He said that the truck carrying the liquor was seized, but the driver, identified as Hanuman Jat, a resident of Aalamsar village, managed to flee.
Dasora said that the liquor was for sale only in Rajasthan. “Sticker showing ‘For sale only in Rajasthan’ was printed on the cartons. Despite that it was being snuggled to Gujarat via Barmer-sanchore route, the official said.
According to the official, the market price of the seized consignment was around ₹22 lakh. A case under section of 19/54 and 54(a) of the Excise Act was lodged in the matter, the official said. BARMER:
