Black fungus patient’s kin cheated of ₹95,000

Amid the rising cases of mucormycos­is, also known as black fungus, a 36-year-old man was cheated of ₹95,000 by online fraudsters on the promise of delivering injections required for the treatment of the disease.

Saris Berry, 36, a native of Ajmer, wanted the injections for his mother, who was undergoing treatment for the illness at a Jaipur hospital, police said on Saturday.

Berry filed a complaint with the Mansarover police station alleging that the scammers promised to deliver liposomal amphoteric­in B injections, which he required for the treatment of her mother. “After I transferre­d money online, the accused switched off their phones,” Berry told HT, adding that her mother passed away on Friday evening.

The Mansarover police have registered an FIR against the unidentifi­ed accused under Section 420 (cheating) of the IPC and started investigat­ions. JAIPUR:
