Centre should allow more Indian companies to make Covid vaccine, says Gehlot

- Aabshar H Quazi

Criticising the Union government for putting the financial burden of Covid-19 vaccination on state governments, Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday said the Centre should change laws if it is required to allow 10 to 20 Indian pharmaceutical companies for production of Covid-19 vaccines to ensure the vaccination for maximum people.

Gehlot virtually inaugurated the telemedicine online appbased platform to provide free medical consultations to people of Rajasthan by international doctors of Rajasthan origin. The platform has been developed by the Rajasthan International (DORI) Foundation in collaboration with the Rajasthan Foundation and WONDERX Dubai.

While speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, Gehlot said that the Union government has to face criticism for the lack of timely vaccination of people of the country and putting the

responsibility of Covid-19 vaccination on state governments. “Since Covid-19 can only be controlled through Covid-19 protocols and vaccination, so Rajasthan government is pressing centre for allowing 10 to 20 Indian pharma companies for production of Covid-19 vaccines as presently only two Indian companies are manufacturing it which is insufficient,” he said.

He said the centre has to change existing law or enact new law for allowing more Indian companies to manufacture Covid-19 vaccine. “No one, not even centre, could gauge the severity of the second wave of Covid-19 in which both death rate and positivity rate remained higher,” he said.

Gehlot urged international doctors and people of Rajasthan origin to extend their cooperation on the vaccination issue. He called for bond of the people of Rajasthan diaspora with the state.

Addressing the event, Dr Jaivir Singh Rathore, president, DORI Foundation, also a neurophysician in Florida, said that the doctors of Rajasthan origin through DORI would try to build primary health centres in their respective villages and hand it over to the Rajasthan government. He himself announced a donation of Rs 25 lakh for developing a PHC in his native village in Rajasthan.

Health minister Dr Raghu Sharma, cooperative minister Parsadi Lal Meena, Rajasthan Foundation commissioner Dheeraj Bhatnagar and other officials attended the meet.
