Hemaram ends dharna after Cairn’s letter
BARMER: Congress leader Hemaram Choudhary ended his protest on Monday after Cairn Oil and Gas company officials assured him on his demands.
During the meeting with Choudhary, Cairn officials assured him to upgrade the community health centre in Gudamalani with the required modern facilities, including appointments of four specialist doctors.
Besides, the company, in a letter, also assured him to ensure participation of locals in job in 70:30 ratio.
On Sunday, Choudhary had announced that he would continue his protest till his demands were met. “If the demands are not met, intensive protest will be planned and the company will be responsible for it,” he had warned.
Alleging misuse of the corporate social responsibility (SSR) funds by Cairn, Choudhary had started a dharna outside the oil company’s site at Rageshwari terminal at Gudamalani on Saturday.
Six-time MLA from Gudamalani in Barmer, Choudhary earlier resigned from the assembly seat last Tuesday. He has sent his resignation to the assembly speaker CP Joshi. However, so far his resignation has not been accepted.
Reacting to Choudhary’s stand, revenue minister Harish Choudhary had said that even he was unaware about the utilisation of CSR funds by Cairn.
“I have no idea where the company is utilising the CSR funds,” he said, adding that the company should utilise the CSR fund for Covid management during the pandemic.
Reacting over the issue, a Cairn official had said, “Since the discovery of oil and gas in region, company is working closely with all stakeholders and during Covid pandemic, has worked closely with the state health officials and district administration.”
