‘People still spitting on road it is beyond my understand­ing’

It’s been over a month since Rohit Saraf tested negative, but he is yet to regain his full strength. The actor says his personal battle with Covid-19 made him realise the value of life, and he condemns people who refuse to understand the gravity of the crisis.

“I have been in the thick of it. In fact, eight or nine of my friends also tested positive around the same time. But, we were all on different sets, in different cities, when we contracted the virus. This [showed] that it’s everywhere,” recounts Saraf, who has “almost fully recovered”.

But, the sheer laxity of some people towards safety protocols has left him confused. “I see people roaming outside without masks, going grocery shopping or talking to vendors. Then, I see people spitting on the road. It is beyond my understand­ing,” laments the 24-year-old.

Pointing at those who’ve dropped caution after recovering, the actor adds, “They think they are safe, but we still don’t have clarity on how this virus is mutating… If you still can’t be careful, I don’t know what needs to happen for you to understand.”

Having said that, Saraf admits he has learnt a lot from his personal experience, filled with gratitude and agony.

“I value my life and those around me so much more. It’s like tonight, you are absolutely fine, but tomorrow morning, you could be struggling to find oxygen. It’s that unpredicta­ble,” he says, stressing on the need to prioritise health. “The richest person today is the one who is fit and able to breathe properly,”
