SUBODH JAISWAL TAKES CHARGE AS NEW CBI CHIEF
NEW DELHI Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, the former Maharashtra director general of police (DGP), on Wednesday took charge as the director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), filling a key position that has been vacant since February.
The Centre late on Tuesday appointed the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) chief as the new director of CBI. Jaiswal, a 1985-batch Maharashtra cadre Indian Police Force (IPS) officer, will head the federal agency for two years.
CBI was working without a regular chief for over three months after Rishi Kumar Shukla completed his two-year tenure on February 3.
The decision to appoint Jaiswal was taken after a 90-minute meeting on Monday by a highpowered panel of PM Narendra Modi, CJI NV Ramana and Congress Lok Sabha floor leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
