Alwar girl develops vaccine tacker app

- Devendra Bhardwaj

Samiya Khan of Alwar has developed a corona vaccine tracker app. The app sends voice alerts as soon as the vaccine is available at the desired centre.

It is necessary to register on the COWIN portal to get the corona vaccine . Due to limited availability of the vaccine, the registration is only available for a short time. Particularly, people of the age group 18-45, keep trying all day for vaccine registration. Solving this problem through technology, Samiya Khan, a student of engineering at Alwar, has created a corona vaccine availability tracker app. This app can be downloaded from the playstore for free.

Samiya Khan told HT that the purpose of the COWIN vaccine tracker app is to provide information about the availability of the corona vaccine to the citizens of India.

Through this app, information of vaccine availability can be obtained according to the district, pin code and age group, in which the name and address of the vaccination centre, pin code and number of available vaccines are shown.

Samiya Khan is pursuing Engineering in Computer Science from IET College, Alwar. She is the daughter of the ‘App Guru’ Imran Khan, a national awardee teacher, famous for educational apps and mentioned by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi in his speech in Wembley Stadium London. Last year she had got first place with her team in the National Hackathon and had won a prize money of Rs 1 lakh.

“Last week, I tried to register for corona vaccination and failed for 2-3 days. As soon as I tried to book a vaccine, all slots were already booked. So, I created a COWIN tracker app to automate vaccine availability checking tasks. I uploaded it for free on playstore and after Google verification, it was approved. Though Google is also restricting developers to upload apps related to COVID-19 but fortunately, in 2-3 days, Google approved it,” she said.

Dr Ashwini Kumar Sharma, vice chancellor, Symbiosis Skills and Professional University, Pune said, “The COWIN vaccine tracker app developed by an engineering girl from Alwar, Ms Samiya Khan, is really a tool in need of this time when everyone is keen to register for vaccination. This enables the user to get the availability of vaccination venue on press of button. This only needs basic parameters for this search like pin-code, city, district and age . The best part is that Google accepted it and it is a step towards Skill India and Atamnirbhar Bharat by young girl.” ALWAR:
