Raj govt may allow markets to open

Markets may be allowed to open from Tuesday to Friday from 6 am to 11 am

JAIPUR: After the decline in Covid-19 cases across the state, the state government has decided to give some relaxation­s to commercial activities from June 1.

The markets in Rajasthan may be allowed to open from Tuesday to Friday from 6 am to 11 am, said an official of home department

The markets may continue to remain closed from Saturday to Monday.

He said that malls and complexes may remain closed and rest of the markets may be allowed to open. The government offices may be permitted to function with not more than 25% staff.

For vaccinatio­n, people may be allowed to move within the area of the concerned urban local body or panchayat samiti. The inter-district and inter-village movement will continue to remain banned.

The Rajasthan government on May 23 had extended lockdown in the state for 15 days till June 8 as per the recommenda­tion by the council of ministers and experts.

The weekly positive rate tumbled for the first time in Rajasthan after surging ahead persistent­ly for several weeks, offering a glimmer of hope that the vicious second spell of the Covid-19 is beginning to tail off.

In last 20 days, the cumulative active cases have declined from over 200,000 to 49,000. Experts believe that at this speed the number of daily cases would reduce to 100 and less by June 10-15.

On Sunday, the state recorded 2,298 active cases and 66 deaths – Jaipur has 22% of total active cases in the Rajasthan.

On February 16, the state recorded 60 new cases and had a total of 1,257 active cases. Till May 14, the total active cases crosses 212,000 figure; and now it has reduced to 49,224 on May 30.

Markets except dairy and milk shops, mandis, fruit-vegetable shops and vendors who sell fruits and vegetables on hand carts and rickshaws, flower garland shops were closed from Friday noon to 5 am on Tuesday.
