Row after BJP puts up poster at a state govt vaccination camp
BARMER: The Congress has cried foul over a government vaccination camp organised on the request of BJP’S district unit in Barmer on Monday.
The BJP’S district unit requested the vaccination camp as part of Sewa Diwas, which is being celebrated by the party all over the country to mark seven years of the Modi government at the centre. Amid the presence of BJP district president Aaduram Meghwal, BJP leader Priyanka Choudhary and other party workers, a poster of the BJP was put up at the vaccination camp.
The Congress raised objections to the BJP’S poster alleging that it was “politicisation of government programmes”. District Congress vice president Yagyadutt Joshi demanded action against the camp in-charge, saying why did allow such political practice during a government programme.
However, district BJP president Aaduram Meghwal denied the allegation.
He said the party had taken prior permission from the health department to organise the camp.
He said during the event, BJP volunteers made the people aware about Covid vaccination and protocols. “Nothing wrong in displaying the poster and allegation of politicising the government programme is baseless,” he said.
Chief medical and health officer (CMHO) Dr Babulal Bishnoi also objected to the BJP’S move to put up the poster. Bishnoi told HT that the health department allowed the vaccination camp on BJP’S demand, but did not give permission to put up the poster. “I have sought a detailed report, on the basis of which action will be taken against the guilty,” he said.
A day earlier, BJP had staged a dharna at the CMHO’S office in Barmer alleging politicisation of the vaccination drive. They alleged that the health department was sanctioning vaccination camps on demand by the Congress leaders only. Later, the district administration officials assured BJP leaders of impartiality, after which they ended the protest.
