BARMER: The state government on Monday recommended a CBI probe into the Kamlesh Prajapat encounter case, said an official of the home department.

Prajapat, a resident of Barmer, was killed allegedly in a police encounter on April 22. Soon after the incident, community members of the deceased claimed it to be a fake encounter and demanded a CBI probe into the matter.

Madan Prajapat, Congress MLA from Pachpadra assembly constituency in Barmer, was the first to demand a CBI probe into the matter. While alleging the encounter a fake, Prajapat had opened a front against his own government and warned of resignation if the CBI demand would not be fulfilled. On last Friday Prajapat met the CM while demanding a CBI probe into the matter.

After the government accepted his demand, Prajapat said that he was thankful to chief minister Ashok Gehlot for considering his demand.

Notorious smuggler and wanted in a hit-and-run case, Kamlesh Prajapat, a resident of Cheeter Ka village in Barmer, was killed on April 22. Police claimed that following an input when they reached to catch the accused, he tried to escape while attempting to kill one police man. In the self defence, police were forced to make a fire in which Kamlesh Prajapat died.

But after two videos related to the Kamlesh Prajapat police encounter went viral on social media, people started raising questions over the encounter. Not only the people, but also leaders from both political parties BJP and Congress termed it a fake encounter. They alleged that it is a planned murder by the Barmer police. Leaders of both parties then demanded a CBI probe in the case.
