-

The Bharatpur police on Tuesday arrested one of the two accused in the murder of a doctor couple in the district last week.

The arrested accused was identified as Mahesh Gurjar (20), native of Nadanpur in Dholpur district.

Dr Sudeep Gupta and his wife Dr Semma Gupta were shot dead on May 28.

On the day of incident, Mahesh, riding a bike, had blocked the car, in which Dr Sudeep Gupta and his wife were travelling, police said.

Mahesh is the cousin of the main accused, Anuj Gurjar, who was riding pillion on Mahesh’s bike and had fired five rounds of bullets that killed the couple in their car. Anuj is on the run.

Bharatpur superintendent of police Devendra Kumar Bishnoi said Mahesh does not have a criminal record.

“The bike used in the killing was lent to Mahesh by his relative Daulat Singh, who was arrested on Sunday,” he said, adding, Daulat also supplied cash to Anuj and Mahesh to help them flee.

Sources said that Anuj had been waiting to get even with the doctor couple for their suspected role in the murder of Anuj’s sister Deepa (25) and her six-yearold son in 2019. Deepa was allegedly in an illicit relationship with Dr Sudeep.
