neous Implantable Defibrillator Systems (S-ICD) may be inserted as preventive measure. S-ICD is the world’s first and only subcutaneous implantable defibrillator that provides protection from SCA while leaving the heart and vasculature untouched. The devices can be permanently placed inside the chest, or just under the skin, to monitor heart rate and rhythm to detect any rapid and/or irregular heart rhythms. When the ICD detects a rapid heart rate, it delivers energy to the heart, converting it back to a regular rhythm and has the ability to pace the heart when needed, thus reducing the risk of sudden cardiac death.
Elaborating on it, Goyal shares, “Most sudden cardiac deaths are caused by abnormal and erratic heart beats, which results in the heart’s inability to pump blood, and death can occur within minutes, if left untreated. To reduce such lifethreatening occurrences, we suggest preventive treatment to patients who are prone to fatal heart related issues.”
He urges heart patients to not ignore worsening of their symptoms or health condition out of Covid-19 scare. “They should be cautious, aware and seek such advanced treatment solutions to curb the occurrence of SCA or similar fatal outcomes,” he adds.
