Covid, black fungus cases decline in state

KOTA: The graphs of Covid-19 and black fungus (mucormycos­is) show a sharp decline in Rajasthan with the state capital reporting no death from Covid-19 after 65 days and over a dozen fungal infections in two days, according to the health department.

Jaipur reported the last Covid-19 death on June 12. Before that no death was reported on April 9 during the second wave of Covid-19.

The state reported seven Covid deaths on Sunday – two each in Udaipur and Bikaner, and one each in Ajmer, Jodhpur and Bharatpur. Rajasthan has recorded 8,822 Covid-19 deaths. Out of 949,000 Covid positive cases in the state, 933,421 have recovered, the health department data shows.

Jaipur reported 1,426 Covid deaths between April 10 and June 12. Maximum deaths were reported in May when 1,121 people succumbed to Covid-19. Now the infection rate stands below 1% in Jaipur, the data shows.

Dr Sudhir Bhandhari, principal of the Government SMS Medical College in Jaipur, said, “There is certainly a decline in Covid-19 and black fungus cases, but people should observe safety protocols for the containmen­t of the disease.”

The Covid recovery rate has touched 98.10%. There are now 1,534 active cases in Jaipur and 7,441 in Rajasthan, data shows.

Cases of black fungus have also declined in Jaipur. The state capital reported 16 cases of mucormycos­is in the last two days, a sharp reduction as compared to June 1 when Jaipur recorded 62 cases.

The decline in fungal infections has also ensured availabili­ty of liposomal amphoteric­in-b injections, health officials said.

Rajasthan has so far given one dose of Covid-19 vaccine to 16,055,411 people and two doses to 3,478,602 people, according to the government data.
