In 2018, the then Vasundhara Raje government in the state introduced the Rajasthan Bovine Animals (Prohibition of Slaughter and Regulation of Temporary Migration or Export) Bill to amend the 1995 Act, after a series of incidents of cow vigilantism in the state. The Bill was given Presidential assent in 2019 after the Congress was elected to power with Ashok Gehlot as the chief minister.
The act prohibits the export of bovine animals for the purpose of slaughter and regulates temporary migration or export for other purposes; it also deems the transporter liable for the same punishment as the person committing the offence.
