BENGALURU: The Karnataka high court, which is hearing Twitter India managing director Manish Maheshwari’s plea against the notice issued by the Uttar Pradesh Police to appear before them in person, said on Tuesday that it will dictate its order on July 20.

During the hearing on Tuesday, justice G Narendar said he would dictate the order next Tuesday. He said he would go through the citations in detail with regard to the territorial jurisdiction of police.

The Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh) police issued the notice under section 41(A) of the CRPC on June 21 asking him to report at the Loni Border police station at 10.30am on June 24.

Maheshwari had moved the Karnataka high court as he lives in Bengaluru in Karnataka.

On June 24, the high court, in an interim order, restrained the Ghaziabad Police from initiating any coercive action against him.

NEW DELHI: India’s 1983 World Cup hero Yashpal Sharma, who was admired for being a gutsy middle-order batsman at the peak of his prowess, died on Tuesday after suffering a massive cardiac arrest in Delhi. Sharma collapsed at home after returning from his morning walk. He was cremated at the Lodhi Road crematorium with his former teammate Kirti Azad among those in attendance.

In his international career, Sharma played 37 Tests, scoring 1606 runs, and 42 ODIS in which he made 883. He was known for his gutsy attitude and few people remember that it was Sharma’s 89 in India’s opening World Cup game at Old Trafford against the West Indies, which the team won by 32 runs, that set the tone for things to come.

The 1983 World Cup belonged to Sharma as much as it belonged to Kapil Dev, Mohinder Amarnath or Roger Binny, whose performances are often highlighted more.

Sharma’s stroke-filled half century in the semifinal against England in the 1983 campaign at the Old Trafford will forever be etched in the public memory.

Sharma was also part of the selection panel that picked the triumphant 2011 World Cup squad. So, from being a part of a World Cup winning to picking one that also won, Sharma had seen it all.
