Jobless youngsters to get NBFGR support for starting fisheries biz

LUCKNOW The young people who have lost their jobs and later exhausted their savings to survive during the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns in Uttar Pradesh will get a chance to start fisheries business with support from Lucknow-based National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (NBFGR). “The plan is to involve around 1500 families of young people left unemployed due to Covid-19 crisis since last year with the fisheries sector in the districts of Uttar Pradesh. We have decided to provide training and technologi­cal assistance to these youngsters. They can use this to set up a successful fisheries business,” said NBFGR director Kuldeep K Lal.

According to experts, fisheries is the second fastest growing meat industry in the country after poutlry. A per the plan, experts from the institute will provide training to these migrants in cultivatin­g fresh water fishes like prawns, crabs etc. “Easy availabili­ty of space and fresh water in the area will make it easier for these youngsters to start their business. We will also take help of local district administra­tion to provide assistance in starting the business or taking loan from banks for the same,” he added.

“Around 20 prople in my district have returned from Delhi after losing their jobs since last year. We all are ready to take up fisheries as a business because it will allow us to work without leaving our village,” said Barabanki resident Rupesh Gautam, a 38-year-old former store manager in Delhi.
