LUCKNOW: As elections to the state assembly draw closer, top leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are expected to begin visiting Uttar Pradesh soon. BJP chief JP Nadda for instance is expected on a twoday visit in the first week of August.

During his visit, tentatively scheduled from August 7, Nadda would also be meeting newly elected district panchayat chairpersons and block pramukhs, majority of whom were backed by the BJP. The party had, for the first time, swept these rural contests, decimating the hold of the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in the fiercely contested elections.

Nadda is also expected to check party’s preparedness for the 2022 UP elections and also consult the state’s political leadership on the forthcoming tours of top BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah, defence minister Rajnath Singh among others.

Nadda’s visit is expected to be preceded by that of Amit Shah, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi might visit soon after, party leaders indicated.

Modi’s July 30 visit to Siddharthnagar for inaugurating nine medical colleges was postponed and is now expected sometime in August, party leaders said. Modi could also be visiting UP for laying the foundation stone of Jewar International Airport, being developed as Asia’s biggest airport, party leaders said. They, however, said that the PM’S itinerary was still not official.

“The PM’S visit could happen between August 22 to 25 but these are tentative dates and a final confirmation is awaited from the PM’S office,” a BJP leader said.

The Purvanchal Expressway, another big-ticket project of the Yogi Adityanath government, too is expected to be inaugurated in August itself.

Amit Shah, meanwhile, would be in Lucknow on August 1 to lay the foundation of UP State Institute for Forensic Sciences that would come up in Piparsand village of Sarojininagar. Shah is also expected in Mirzapur on the same day, party leaders hinted.

Mirzapur is the Lok Sabha constituency of BJP’S ally Apna Dal (Sonelal). It’s chief and Union minister Anupriya Patel, an MP from Mirzapur, is also expected to be present on the occasion.
