House still deadlocked 11 days into session
Ruckus and protests over the Pegasus snooping row and the three farm laws continued to mar Parliament proceedings for the 11th straight day on Monday, forcing both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha to adjourn for the day, even as yet another outreach by the Union government with the opposition members failed to break the deadlock in the ongoing Monsoon Session
In the Lok Sabha, before Ram Devi, who was in the Chair, adjourned the proceedings till Tuesday morning, the House passed the General Insurance Business (Nationalisation) Amendment Bill through voice vote.
Moving the bill for consideration and passage, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that she wanted to respond to the concerns raised by the Opposition
members but could not do so as the House was not in order.
The proceedings were first adjourned till noon, then till 2 pm and again till 3.30 pm as an unrelenting Opposition refused to end its protests.
The Rajya Sabha, too, witnessed multiple adjournments on Monday even as it passed the Inland Vessels Bill-2021 amid the din. The government also moved moved two legislations -- The Appropriation (No 4) Bill, 2021 and The Appropriation (No 3) Bill, 2021 -- for passage.
Earlier in the day, defence minister Rajnath Singh called up the Leaders of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and sought their cooperation in running the House, news agency ANI officials aware of the developments said.
“...the opposition leaders said the government should discuss the issue raised by them and only then are they ready to cooperate,” officials said.
Amid the impasse, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi invited leaders of opposition parties to a breakfast meeting at the Constitution Club in Delhi on Tuesday to chalk out a joint strategy on the Pegasus snooping issue.
News agency PTI quoting officials said all opposition MPS and floor leaders of parties have been invited for the meeting.
