“Double T-girder gets its name from its ‘T’ shape, and it is a much more convenient and cost-effective method to construct the station concourse area. In comparison to the traditional shuttering method which leads to traffic congestion on the road and much more time in setting, pre-cast double T girder takes only a few hours to be placed, and saves construction cost to a large extent,” he explained.
“Double T-girders used in Agra Metro project are 11.4 metre long, 3.07 metre wide and 1 metre in depth. Its gross weight is around 45 tons. It is to be noted that UP Metro is the first organisation in the country to use Double T Girder for construction of the concourse area of the Metro stations. Striving to always keep up with latest technology in all its projects,” the statement said.
The double T-girders are to be placed on horizontal beam, also known as longitudinal beam which form the main foundation for the metro station. The civil construction work for Agra Metro Is being carried out in full swing, and till now 582 piles, 105 pile caps and 89 piers have been successfully erected.
12 pier caps have already been placed successfully on the viaduct of the Priority stretch, which lies from Taj East Gate to Jama Masjid, as per the press statement.
