He is a living example e proverb where there’s a here’s a way. Despite losing yesight in a freak accident ly two decades ago, Ram ore did not lose his heart. ter the tragedy, Kishore, in his 40s, completed his c Training Certificate (BTC) se and later bagged the job teacher some 15 years ago. y, he is the headmaster of a ary school in Tanda in hpur district. When he hes his students on the kboard, none can make out he is visually challenged. never gave up. I can feel the

blackboard the same way as the one who has eyes will feel it. It helps me teach my students with ease and physical challenge doesn’t come in my way,”

said a confident looking Kishore.

Each day, he takes classes of mathematics, English and Hindi in the school meant for students up to class five. On the eve of Teachers’ Day (Saturday), he could be seen taking his class drawing the images of a mouse and a rat on the blackboard while measuring what he was drawing.

“Children understand a word when it is complimented with an image,” he said while moving on to the next class where helped students solve sums.

Ram Kishore has been teaching at this school, which is 20 km away from his Asni village, for the last 15 years.

He takes the bus every morning to reach the school where he oversees morning assembly and teaching apart from taking his own classes.

Kishore met with the accident in 2002 as a student losing sight in both eyes. He was enrolled in the school for blinds from where he graduated. “I wanted to become a PCS officer till the accident happened,” he said. “Later, I completed by BTC course and applied for the post of a teacher and was selected,” Kishore added.

“Lack of eyesight initially posed many challenges but I never thought myself of being deficient. I am discharging my duties like a normal person and I will never let this confidence disappear,” he said.

His students say his teaching method is simple and easy to grasp. “We help him move from one class to another and often up to the gates from where he goes to the bus stand,” said Akshay Kanaujia, one of his students. The school has two assistant teachers who help him run the school smoothly.
