16-yr-old AMU girl dies by suicide

AGRA : A 16-year-old student of a school of the Aligarh Muslim University committed suicide by hanging herself in the room of her hostel on Sunday afternoon. Police are investigat­ing the matter but prima facie believe it to be a case of suicide.

No suicide note was found from the room but it is learnt that the girl was undergoing treatment by a psychiatri­st for depression.

“A 16-year-old girl was found hanging in her room in the hostel of the school of Aligarh Muslim University. Police and family members of the girl were informed. She was a student of science stream. It has been revealed that she moved an applicatio­n in her school seeking permission to visit a doctor for her medical ailment. The matter is being investigat­ed by the police,” stated prof Mohd Wasim Ali, proctor, Aligarh Muslim University.

“There was no suicide note found but there were notings in her copy found in her room where the girl had mentioned about her illness and treatment by a psychiatri­st. The exact reason for suicide is being worked out but it appears that girl was under depression.
