‘Today’s era must not be of war’: G20 members declare PM MODI MEETS BRITAIN’S SUNAK WITH FOCUS ON TRADE, DEFENCE COOPERATION
BALI: The G20 Bali Declaration emphasised on the futility of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war in the current times — echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks at the SCO summit about two months back — even as world leaders on Wednesday collectively acknowledged differences among members on the war but stressed that it was essential to adhere to international law, including protection of civilians caught in conflicts.
This came at the end of the two-day G20 summit hosted by Indonesia in Bali, as the “G20 Bali Leaders’ Declaration” also reflected the contentious debate that went into drafting it.
The members of the grouping made it clear that they were against the use or threat of use of nuclear weapons and sought “peaceful resolution” of conflicts.
“Today’s era must not be of war,” the declaration said, what PM Modi told Russian President Vladimir Putin during their bilateral meeting on the margins of the SCO summit in September.

BALI: The United Kingdom on Wednesday unveiled a new scheme offering 3,000 places annually to 18 to 30 year-old degree-educated Indian nationals to come to Britain to live and work for up to two years following the first meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UK PM Rishi Sunak on the sidelines of the G20 summit.
After his talks with Sunak, Modi said India attaches great importance to the robust India-UK ties; the ministry of external affairs said the discussions touched upon important sectors of collaboration such as trade, mobility, defence and security. “India attaches great importance to robust India-UK ties. We discussed ways to increase commercial linkages, raise the scope of security cooperation in context of India’s defence reforms and make people-to-people ties even stronger,” Modi tweeted. “The Indo-Pacific is increasingly crucial for our security... It is teeming with dynamic and fast-growing economies, and the next decade will be defined by what happens in this region,” Sunak said.
