We can’t be dancing in our 40s around trees

- Syeda Eba Fatima

Isha Koppikar has been busy of late. The actor had been promoting her last release, Love You Loktantra, her web show Suranga and is also shooting for OTT project, Atrangi, which also stars Rakul Preet Singh. And while she calls this “a great phase” to be in, she also feels with the advent of new mediums and different formats of content, the challenges to stay relevant have increased.

Koppikar, 45, says, “Earlier, when there were movies, there were certain actors for certain kinds of roles. But now, for your slot, there are so many other contenders.” However, she is all for the changing times. “We need to grow gracefully. We need to accept that in our 40s, we can’t be dancing around trees. We have got to do different kinds of roles, and for that we need to be patient and open to change,” she shares.

Being part of the industry for a long time, Koppikar has had her own share of struggles. She shares, “Though I had a family here, I wanted to buy my own house. And because of financial pressure, I had to make a lot of creative compromises. I had to do a lot of films, which today if I look back, I would not have done it.”

That’s why, the actor feels, it is essential for aspiring actors to have a solid source of income in place. “It’s important to have some support. Actors should not come here to make this their bread and butter, because that leads to creative compromises. You should have the ability to not only save money but also to create wealth and assets. I worked constantly, saved every penny and cleared my loan in three years,” she ends.
