Brothers Puranchand Wadali and Pyarelal Wadali started their musical journeys in 1975. However, their ensemble, Wadali Brothers, came to a standstill when the latter passed away in 2018. Now, singer Lakhwinder Wadali accompanies his dad, Puranchand, for concerts across the world, to keep their music group and gharana’s lineage alive.
The duo is currently touring India, with upcoming concerts lined up in Mumbai and Pune. Talking about stepping into his uncle’s shoes, Lakhwinder says, “People didn’t know how to accept that I would be singing with papa ji, because everyone missed chacha ji. For some time, we weren’t even called for events. Eventually, when we started performing more, people saw us together and realised that this can be good, too.”
For any artiste, being out of work can be tough. Ask how his father reacted when people didn’t approach them for work, and Lakhwinder replies, “Papa ji was a little hurt, but he never expressed it. He never tells people what’s going on in his head and heart. He just shows that he is happy. But, that phase was tough. We worked very hard together and made it to the audience through standing ovations.”
Talking about their upcoming shows, the duo is hoping to continue to win the hearts of old and young music lovers alike. “We will make sure to do something really special for them,” Lakhwinder ends.

Actor Sunny Singh is awaiting the release of the biggest film of his career, Adipurush. Though the teaser of the Om Raut directorial faced severe backlash due to its VFX, Singh, who plays Laxman in the film, which is a cinematic adaptation of the Ramayan, says, “Every film is criticised today. Kuch bhi aa jaaye, har cheez ki trolling hoti hai. I like how it used to be earlier. Aaj, har cheez mein koi na koi buraai nikalta hi hai. So, I don’t believe the trolls.”
The 37-year-old is confident that people across age groups will enjoy watching Adipurush.
“There is no point thinking of all that (backlash) and getting into that (negative) space. I believe when you make a film from the heart, only good things happen,” Singh adds.
The film’s release date has been pushed from January to June, next year, as the makers took note of the feedback and are reworking the VFX. The Jai Mummy Di (2020) actor says, “People said I look good in the film. My look and dialogue delivery is quite different. I feel lucky to have played Laxman.”
