AMU events to highlight violence against women
ALIGARH: The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) will observe the ‘International Day of Elimination of Violence against Women’ with a series of awareness events of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) from November 25 to December 10.
The chief guest, vice-chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor will deliver the presidential address on the inaugural day after a special address by guest of honour, Prof Mohammad Gulrez (pro vice- chancellor). “The programme will feature important lectures and talks by Prof Mohammad Sajjad (department of history), Prof Naima Khatoon (principal, Women’s College), Prof Zafar Ahmad Khan (Dr Ambedkar Chair for Legal studies and Research, department of law) and Prof Sangeeta Singhal (ICC Member). Sensitisation workshops, street plays, poster/ slogan/short film competitions, panel discussions and other awareness programmes are also scheduled in the 16-day programme,” said Prof Seema Hakim (ICC presiding officer).
Two-day AMU meet to discuss climate
The department of English, Aligarh Muslim University, is to discuss the alarming and emergent issue of climate change as it hosts the 19th International Biennial Symposium on Literature and Culture in the Asia-Pacific region on November 26 -27. It goes with the topic - Literature and the Non-human: Abrogating the Anthropocene. The previous symposia in this series have been hosted by institutes of Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and other flourishing places.
