LUCKNOW: Nursing and paramedical institutes in Uttar Pradesh will now have to go through an evaluation process annually.

Based on the report of this evaluation, the institute will be given a rating. The entire process, designed to upgrade quality of education, will begin soon, said officials.

Speaking on the proposed development, Alok Kumar, principal secretary, medical education department, Uttar Pradesh, said, “Prospective nursing and paramedical students can choose a quality institute based on the ratings given to them. Additionally, it will help in identifying the areas where institutions need to work upon.”

The annual evaluation process will be conducted by the state medical faculty. Selected institutes will be evaluated on parameters, including teaching, pedagogy, infrastructure and behavioural skills of students.

The initiative is part of ‘Mission Niramayah’, launched on October 22 by chief minister Yogi Adityanath with the aim to improve Uttar Pradesh’s health infrastructure and preparing workforce for the future.

“Rating will be released in the first quarter of 2023. Once ratings are declared, the institutes will be given time to improve,” said Alok Kumar secretary/registrar of Uttar Pradesh State Medical Faculty.

He added, “Ratings will be given by Quality Council of India (QCI), an independent agency. Any institution that wants to get itself re-evaluated may do so at its own expense.”

Weighing in on the initiative, Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretarygeneral Association of International Doctors, said, “Ranking allows candidates to identify the best institute during counselling. Also, with ranking system in place, colleges/institutes will strive hard to be on the top. In the process, the quality of education and training will be improved.”
