AGRA: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday urged Mainpuri voters to not be misled by the Samajwadi Party’s emotional card in the Lok Sabha by-election caused by the death of SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Yogi Adityanath also took a jibe at Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party-Lohia chief Shivpal Yadav, who has reunited with his nephew SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, and termed him a “pendulum” or “football” kicked by both teams.

Besides, he appealed to the voters to make the BJP win in Mainpuri in order to make the words of netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) come true.

He was addressing a public meeting in the Karhal assembly segment of Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency for BJP candidate Raghuraj Singh Shakya, who is pitted against the Samajwadi Party nominee Dimple Yadav, the ‘bahu’ (daughter-in-law) of Mulayam Singh Yadav and wife of Akhilesh Yadav.

Akhilesh Yadav represents Karhal in the state assembly. The Mainpuri bypoll is scheduled for December 5.

“The Samajwadi Party leaders, campaigning for their party candidate, will try to play the emotional card, but don’t get misled by them. Socialism and secularism are mere election slogans for the Samajwadi Party, which treats politics as a family business,” Yogi Adityanath said.

“The late netaji had once said “jeetegi toh BJP hi” (only BJP will win) and we won the Azamgarh and Rampur Lok Sabha seats with his blessings. Again, the voters in Mainpuri have an opportunity to realise netaji’s dream by ensuring BJP’s victory in the Mainpuri Lok Sabha bypoll and script history,” Yogi Adityanath said.

Attacking the state’s main opposition party, he said, “The SP has nothing to do with development, or welfare and prosperity of the people. They can’t stand with the masses during crisis and were nowhere to be seen during the Covid pandemic. All of them are interested in is their own, as well as their families’ interests.”

“That is why the SP, when in power, never built houses and toilets for the poor. Instead, they built palaces for themselves. They never bothered to provide jobs to the youth, security to the people and support to the farmers,” he said.

Coming down heavily on Shivpal Yadav, Yogi Adityanath said: “He has become something like a pendulum, or a football that gets kicked by both teams. We saw how the last time he was insulted on stage through the denial of a chair and had to sit on the arm of a chair during campaigning for the state assembly elections.”

Yogi Adityanath urged people to become part of the larger BJP family, “instead of this family or that family”.

He said the BJP government alone has the intention, dedication and commitment to improve people’s lives through development projects and welfare schemes.

“We are building houses and toilets for the people. We are providing rations to 15 crore people. During the pandemic, we provided free test, treatment and vaccines to the people. We are providing annual pension of Rs 12,000 to the old, widows, destitute women and differently-abled,” he remarked.

He alleged that during the SP rule, the state was under the control of the land and mining mafia nurtured by the party.

“We are dealing strictly with the mafia. We have seized properties worth hundreds of crores of the mafia and getting houses built on them for the poor. We are providing security to the people,” he said.

“When the NDA government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi took over in 2014, the PM gave the slogan of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”, which means development and welfare of all, but discrimination against none and appeasement to none. The party has strictly followed this dictum in discharging its duties,” he said.

The lost glory of Mainpuri must be restored and it can be done only through the BJP, he said.
