THE SOLUTION

Hindustan Times ST (Mumbai) - HT Navi Mumbai Live - - HT NAVI MUMBAI -

All the road safety drives and awareness campaigns seem to matter little to some residents. Sadly, these are the well-educated ones. Perhaps that is the reason they feel that they are above the law and can act according to their whims and fancies. The area in question has housing societies which have ample parking place. Some people do park their vehicles along the road, but parking on the footpath can simply not be tolerated. The traffic police needs to come down hard on these violations before the situation gets out of hand and the entire footpath stretch is taken over by vehicles. The police should also issue strict warning to such errant motorists through the housing societies that they should not park their vehicles on the footpath. Very often, the motorists are only fined and let go. The police should instead tow away their vehicles and, if they don’t have enough towing vans, use a wheel clamp so the owner can’t drive away without getting punished.
