WORKERS DESTROYED PROPERTY WORTH R1 CRORE

-

On December 27, contract workers deployed for collection of garbage in the city went on a rampage and allegedly destroyed property worth over Rs1 crore. At least four workers and an equal number of supervisors were injured in the incident. Twenty eight people have since been arrested by Rabale police. The violence was in response to the alleged thrashing of the workers by their supervisors who wanted them to stop work as they claimed that due payment from NMMC had not been received. NMMC has denied the allegation. The sanitation workers in the city work on a contract basis for NMMC. They are paid by the contractor.
