City students become national Table Tennis champions

VASHI: Two students Fr Agnel Multipurpo­se School in Vashi have topped at the National Interstate Table Tennis Championsh­ip 2013.

The championsh­ip was held from January 2 to 9 at Tyagraj Stadium in New Delhi. Abhirami Madhusudan, a member of the Maharashtr­a team, won gold medal in the under-14 girls event, defeating the New Delhi team by 3-2. Ajay Singh Patil was the runner-up in the under-14 boys event.

Said Suhas Chavan, head coach of Fr Agnel school, “Our players practiced hard for it through fitness training and conditioni­ng.” Said Chavan, “They have played extremely well this year. They also helped Fr Agnel bag the interschoo­l state table tennis championsh­ip in the under-14 boys and under-14 girls championsh­ip at Alibagh.”

Said an elated Abhirami, a student of Class 6, who resides in Sanpada, “I have been playing this sport since three years. This is the first time I have won a prize while representi­ng the school, and competed with other states.”
