Pongal festivitie­s in Kharghar

KHARGHAR: Pongal, the traditiona­l Tamil festival that celebrates the winter harvest, was celebrated by a large number of Tamil community members in Kharghar. The festivitie­s were organised jointly by Yuva Prerna Social organisati­on along with Khargharch­a Raja Ganesh Charitable Trust in Kharghar.

Around 30 women mem- bers of the community worked together to prepare “Pongal Rice” in traditiona­l clay pots under the open sky during the sunrise.

They were all felicitate­d at the programme and and offered their prayers to the Sun God and Lord Muruga, also known as Karthikeya, a prominent deity among Tamilians.
