Pongal festivities in Kharghar

KHARGHAR: Pongal, the traditional Tamil festival that celebrates the winter harvest, was celebrated by a large number of Tamil community members in Kharghar. The festivities were organised jointly by Yuva Prerna Social organisation along with Khargharcha Raja Ganesh Charitable Trust in Kharghar.

Around 30 women mem- bers of the community worked together to prepare “Pongal Rice” in traditional clay pots under the open sky during the sunrise.

They were all felicitated at the programme and and offered their prayers to the Sun God and Lord Muruga, also known as Karthikeya, a prominent deity among Tamilians.
