INDIANS BEAT DUTCH 1-0 IN SOCCER MATCH
VASHI: The Western India Football Association, along with the All India Football Federation, organised an international exhibition match between the Indian women’s assorted team and the Dutch women’s assorted team, which was played in Vashi on January 20. The Indian team won the match 1-0.
The members of the Netherlands women’s team arrived in India on Sunday night and were excited about their maiden visit to India. This is the first such initiative by AIFF with support from the WIFA, and the Kolhapur Sports Association, which had organised a match on January 17, and Fr Agnels, Vashi, which hosted the second match.
WIFA secretary Souter Vaz said, “We were excited and happy to host both these games in our state for the first time ever. Residents of Kolhapur and Navi Mumbai are crazy about sports and we got a good crowd for the games. Till last year, we did not not have much activity in women’s football.”
Fr S Almeida, managing director of Fr Agnels, said, “We thank AIFF for this opportunity. We were happy to host the first international football match in Navi Mumbai. We want to show children and their parents, especially the girls, the benefits of taking up football.”
