Schools to have transport panels

Schools in the city will have to form transport committees with immediate effect to enforce the bus safety policy, the RTO told school principals at a meeting on Thursday. This comes after a four-year- old nursery student from a school in Juhu was molested last week by a bus cleaner.

The meeting, organised at the Andheri RTO, was a workshop for principals of schools from Bandra to Dahisar to understand the policy.

The transport panel will have to enforce and monitor the policy, which mandates fire extinguishers, emergency exits and women attendants in buses. The panel will have representatives from the school, parents, RTO and the education department.
