NDA, MODI ARE FRONTRUNNERS TODAY: SURVEY

- HT Correspondent letters@hindustantimes.com NEW DELHI:

If general elections were held now, the NDA would outperform the UPA by a comfortable margin, an ABP NewsNielsen 28-city survey released on Thursday revealed.

The survey, which was conducted before Rahul Gandhi became Congress vice-president and Nitin Gadkari quit as BJP chief, said 39% of its 9,000 respondents claimed they would vote for NDA and 22% for the UPA.

What’s more, if parties rather than alliances were considered, 36% said they would opt for the BJP and 18% came out in support of the Congress.

Survey results also revealed that Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi was the favourite prime ministerial candidate, with as many as 48% respondents backing him. Only 7% of the respondents felt that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should become PM again and 18% wanted Rahul to take over the top job.

Respondents from Delhi also said they were happy with chief minister Sheila Dikshit and felt if the Delhi Police reported to her government, the law and order situation in the city would improve.
