Water scarcity at Jui village as Cidco looks the other way
While Cidco is on a development spree in the city, even initiating mega projects, there are still basic areas which have been neglected for a long time. These include water supply in Cidco jurisdiction areas.
One such area, that has been suffering serious water scarcity is Jui village, situated on the west side of Mansarovar railway station. Though Cidco is supplying water to the village, it is not enough for the villagers.
Jui village is neglected in many ways because of the urbanisation of nearby areas. But many labourers working in the city depend on this village for their shelter. The labourers who develop our cities are being neglected and are having to face problems with even basic amenities. Even their children are facing difficulties in school, as there is no water supply there.
Earlier, Jui villages repeatedly complained to village authorities, as there would be no water supply for many days in the village. The village panchayat then sought assistance from Cidco, which is now supplying water for an hour every alternate day.
A small water tank of the Gram Panchayat currently supplies water to the village and a new water tank is under construction, which is expected to be functional in two months.
Rekha Gaikwad, a teacher from the zilla parishad school of Jui, said: “The village panchayat and authorities concerned should take immediate action to supply enough water to the village. Students in the school here are from very poor backgrounds and we are unable to provide water for them.”
Roy, a resident of Jui village said, “Water is being supplied here now but it is not enough for our family as well as the village. We have to wait for two days for next water supply. Even the new water tank that is under construction is too small to take care of the needs of the village.”
Sreenath Mathre, who has a business firm in Jui said, “Water scarcity is a major problem, because of which many people are leaving the village and migrating to urban areas. My business also depends greatly on water supply, so the government should take immediate action.”
Sanjay Chawdary, a retail shopkeeper as well as a social worker says, “Most of the villagers are suffering from scarcity of basic requirements like water, which needs immediate attention.”
