The five- day Navi Mum­bai Mahila Mahotsav kicked off at CBD on Thurs­day. The Mahotsav is be­ing held by Shri Goverd­hani Sar­va­janik Seva Sanstha (SGSSS).

The mahotsav is be­ing held at Su­nil Gavaskar ground in Sec­tor 1 of CBD Be­la­pur.

While the women’s fest started on Thurs­day with cul­tural pro­grammes and com­pe­ti­tions for women, it will be for­mally in­au­gu­rated on Fri­day by Cidco chair­man Pramod Hin­durao. Those ex­pected for the in­au­gu­ral pro­gramme in­clude Navi Mum­bai po­lice com­mis­sioner Ashok Sharma, Marathi daily ‘Sakal’ ed­i­tor Padmab­hushan Desh­pande and ‘Lok­mat’ ed­i­tor Vinayak Pa­trud­kar among other dig­ni­taries

SGSSS chair­per­son former MLC Manda Mha­tre said, “Sev­eral events in­clud­ing women’s sports, la­vani dance, haldi kum kum fes­ti­val, me­handi com­pe­ti­tion, cook­ing con­test and chil­dren’s draw­ing com­pe­ti­tion on the theme of fe­male foeticide have been planned.”

She added, “There will also be orches­tra of fun filled Marathi and Hindi songs, health check up camp by Lions club and Em­pa­thy Foun­da­tion dur­ing the Mahila Mahotsav.”

Em­i­nent ci­ti­zens who have made sig­nif­i­cant con­tri­bu­tions in their field will be fe­lic­i­tated dur­ing the fest.

Marathi daily ‘Pun­yana­gari’ ed­i­tor San­jay Malme will be the chief guest at the clos­ing cer­e­mony on Jan­uary 28 when prizes will be given to the win­ners of var­i­ous com­pe­ti­tions.
