3 chain snatching cases in a day

CBD BELAPUR: Three chain snatching i ncidents were reported from different parts of the city on Thursday.

According to the annual report released by the Navi Mumbai police on Tuesday, chain snatching incidents were among the few crimes in the city that have gone up during the past year. The police commission­er had assured citizens that steps were being taken to bring the situation under control.

On Thursday, however, gold chains worth Rs2.60 lakh were snatched from women at CBD Belapur, Kopar Khairane and Sanpada. In all the three incidents, two men on a bike approached the victim after which the pillion rider snatched away the victims’ gold jewellery.

The first incident occurred at 2.15pm in sector 3 of Kopar Khairane near Rajdhani sweet mart. Swati Patkute, 42, a homemaker and resident of Worli in Mumbai, was walking along the road when gold jewellery worth Rs95,000 was snatched from her, police said.

The second incident took place at around 3 pm. Sadhana Jadhav, 42, a homemaker living at sector 23 in Jui Nagar was walking along the road near State Bank in sector 12 of Sanpada, when two men on a motorcycle came close to her and the pillion rider snatched the mangalsutr­a worth Rs15,000 from her neck and fled.

In a similar incident, at CBD Belapur, Kalpeshwar­i Pant, 53, a homemaker residing at Regency Tower in sector 15 had hailed an autoricksh­aw at around 3.20pm near Agroli pond. As she was boarding the autoricksh­aw, police said that two unidentifi­ed bike- borne men approached her, and the pillion rider snatched gold jewellery worth Rs 1.50 lakh after which the duo sped away.
