PANVEL: Lack of parking space for vehicles is amongst the major problems faced by residents in Panvel city. Authorities have shown little interest in solving the problem which is leading to several other problems including uncontrollable traffic congestions. Residents and businessmen feel that lack of parking place is a major impediment towards the growth of city.

Traffic congestions are the primary problem created by the lack of parking spaces. As an important region of wholesale markets and corridor of Konkan region, Panvel is a centre for several players who visit it and where a lot of commercial activity takes place.

There is little space even around administrative buildings and important places in the city to park vehicles. One has to be always cautious about parking vehicle in an area as there is always the fear of the traffic police towing away the vehicle. It is another story that they do not have any alternative place where the motorists can park their vehicles.

The worst affected areas are administrative buildings of PMC, Tehsil office, police station, wholesale vegetable market and wholesale market at Uran Naka.

Said Keshav Shinde, PMC engineer, “We are working for a permanent solution to parking problems in the city. We are searching for suitable spaces for parking allotment. Residents too should cooperate with us.”
