BY-ELECTION IN VASHI’S WARD N0. 54 TODAY

VASHI: Voting in the by-election to ward no. 54 in Vashi, comprising sectors 6, 7 and 8, will take place today till 5pm, followed by the counting process. Results are also expected later in the evening.

The by-election is being held after the resignation of Vithal More from Nationalist Congress Party, on whose ticket he had won the seat. The three candidates in the fray are corporator Vijaya Thakur who is contesting as the NCP candidate, More as the Shiv Sena candidate and Eknath Dukhande of the Congress.

The voting centre is Modern school where eight booths have been set up, for 6,725 voters.

Deputy commissioner of police Purushottam Karad is leading a team of 10 police inspectors, 25 police sub-inspectors and 200 personnel for the voting and subsequent counting.
