NCP CORPORATOR FROM GHANSOLI ATTACKED WITH CHOPPER BY FIVE

KOPAR KHAIRANE: Nationalis­t Congress Party corporator from Ghansoli, Sanjay Patil was attack by five unidentifi­ed men on Thursday. Patil who received serious hand and head injuries is reported to be out of danger.

The incident took place at around 9.30pm on Ghansoli Palm Beach road. At the time of going to the press, Patil who was rushed to Sai Snehdeep hospital in sector 22 of Kopar Khairane was undergoing an operation to rejoin his little finger.

According to Nasser Pathan, senior police inspector of Rabale police station, “Patil was heading to Ghansoli on a bike with a friend, Sudhir. Five attackers were waiting for him on the Ghansoli Palm Beach road in a Scorpio. A Swift Dzire later joined the gang.”

As Patil’s bike came close to the Scorpio, the attackers pushed the duo who fell off the bike. “One of the attackers then tried to shoot Patil but his firearm got locked. Sudhir was then attacked with a chopper on his leg,” added Pathan.

Following this, Patil was attacked on his head. When he raised his hand, his finger got cut.

Kopar Khairnae senior police inspector Mukund Hatote said, “We are trying to trace the two vehicles that were used in the attack. The chopper used in the attack has been recovered.”

Dr Laxman Thadani who was treating Patil said, “Patil is out of danger. He is currently undergoing operation for his injuries since his little finger and a vein on his left wrist were cut. Although there is an injury on the skull, it is not deep.”

Soon after the incident, several politician­s, corporator­s and residents rushed to the hospital.
