- TASNEEM KAUSAR

AIROLI: The plaster of a house in Panchtara society of sector 5, Airoli, fell off on Wednesday night, exposing the rusted iron rods inside. No one was hurt in the incident.

Airoli MLA Sandeep Naik who visited the house, assured residents that he would step up efforts to get a sanction for the redevelopment of buildings in the city.

KJ Bankakur, who resides on the ground floor of the threestoreyed building, said, “At around 11pm I heard a huge sound from the bedroom. When I went in, I saw that a huge portion of the ceiling had come off. Thankfully, no one was in the room at the time.”

The condition of other houses in the society too is bad. Residents said that that they feared for their lives during the monsoon.

“Cidco is to be blamed for the state of affairs of these buildings. I have been raising the issue of re- development with the government and will further take it up,” said Naik.
