Citizens wake up to harmful effects of plastic

NAVI MUMBAI: Being a part of HT’s clean-up drive at Mini-Sea Shore on Sunday, made residents realise the gravity of the problem posed by the large amount of plastic waste in the city.

A clean- up drive is a good way to tell people about the harmful effects of plastic.

drive garnered support from about 200 residents of Navi Mumbai.

“I have always read about how plastic harms the environmen­t in my textbooks but never knew about the extent of problem. It was during this drive that I realise how serious the problem is,” said Sudhanshu Singh, a 14year-old student.

Members of Navi Mumbai senior citizen’s welfare associatio­n, who actively participat­ed in the clean-up drive, were all praises for the initiative too.

“A clean-up drive is a good way to involve more people and propagate the message the harmful effects of plastic. Citizens and authoritie­s are equally responsibl­e for making the city plastic-free. Banners must be put up to spread the message,” said KR Singhal, general secretary, Navi Mumbai senior citizen Welfare associatio­n.

The Fortis group, DY Patil group and the Navi Mumbai Network were among others who also participat­ed in the event.
