NEW DELHI/MUMBAI: Actor Sanjay Dutt won’t be heading to jail for another month. Dutt, who has to spend three-and-a-half years behind bars for illegally possessing firearms during the 1993 Mumbai blasts, was supposed to surrender on April 18, but asked for six more months from the Supreme Court.
A bench of justice P Sathasivam and justice BS Chauhan gave a month’s time to Dutt to complete his pending film projects worth Rs278 crore. Dutt’s advocate Harish Salve assured the bench that his client will not seek another extension.
“Considering the facts and circumstances of the case, we are not inclined to extend the time by six months,” the court said.
