AFTER JD(U), SENA WANTS BJP TO CLEAR AIR ON MODI FOR PM
MUMBAI: The Shiv Sena, an ally of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), on Wednesday asked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to come clean on its prime ministerial candidate and end the controversy over projecting Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi as its candidate.
It’s the second NDA ally after Janata Dal (U) to ask the BJP to clarify its stand.
“The BJP has the right to decide its prime ministerial candidate, but it can’t make [anyone] prime minister on its own. It will have to take the allies in NDA into confidence,” said an editorial in the Sena mouthpiece, Saamna, on Wednesday. Following Bal Thackeray’s death, Uddhav Thackeray has become Saamna editor.
“A section in the BJP is making noise about Modi being its PM candidate. The NDA should meet and BJP chief Rajnath Singh and senior leaders should make it clear,” the editorial said,
The Sena also asked it to decide whether it wanted to lose an old ally such as JD (U).
