Eight more minors arrested

VASHI: The Vashi railway police on Wednesday arrested eight minors for their involvement in a robbery on a local train between Mankhurd and Vashi railway stations on Tuesday.

Another minor, who was also involved in the incident that led to the death of a boy, was arrest- ed on Tuesday.

The incident took place at 5.30am, on a Panvel-bound train, when the teenagers —all residents of Mankhurd — allegedly robbed a few commuters after boarding it at Mankhurd.

As the boys tried to flee after the robbery by jumping off the train, one of the boys was hit by a train coming from the opposite direction.

According to Parshuram Karyakarte, senior police inspector Vashi railway police, “The teenagers stole mobile phones and cash from passengers.”

Based on the CCTV footage at Mankhurd station and information given by the boy who was arrested on Tuesday, the police arrested the eight others. They have all been sent to a children’s remand home.
