CBD BELAPUR: The 16- member standing committee of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, recently inducted eight new members.

The members were nominated under the Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporations Act, 1949, by their respective parties during the general body meeting on Thursday.

The new members replaced eight others who retired after the completion of their twoyear tenures, including chairman Sampat Shevale.

The new members will join the committee from May 1.

While five new members are from Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which is the ruling party, two are from Shiv Sena and one from the Congress. However, none of the retired members were retained by their parties.

The Shiv Sena has an additional seat because of the change in the norms on the number of seats as per a party’s strength.

With the names of the new members being announced, all eyes are on who the next standing committee chairman will be.
