EIGHT MEM­BERS IN­DUCTED INTO NMMC STAND­ING COM­MIT­TEE

CBD BE­LA­PUR: The 16- mem­ber stand­ing com­mit­tee of Navi Mum­bai Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion, re­cently in­ducted eight new mem­bers.

The mem­bers were nom­i­nated un­der the Bom­bay Pro­vin­cial Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tions Act, 1949, by their re­spec­tive par­ties dur­ing the gen­eral body meet­ing on Thurs­day.

The new mem­bers re­placed eight oth­ers who re­tired af­ter the com­ple­tion of their twoyear tenures, in­clud­ing chair­man Sam­pat She­vale.

The new mem­bers will join the com­mit­tee from May 1.

While five new mem­bers are from Na­tion­al­ist Congress Party (NCP), which is the rul­ing party, two are from Shiv Sena and one from the Congress. How­ever, none of the re­tired mem­bers were re­tained by their par­ties.

The Shiv Sena has an ad­di­tional seat be­cause of the change in the norms on the num­ber of seats as per a party’s strength.

With the names of the new mem­bers be­ing an­nounced, all eyes are on who the next stand­ing com­mit­tee chair­man will be.
