Cop assault: 2 MLAs held guilty by the House panel

MUMBAI: While two MLAs — Ram Kadam and Kshitij Thakur — have been held guilty of assaulting a police officer in the Vidhan Sabha premises last month, three others have been given a clean chit by the legislative panel.

A committee led by senior legislator Ganpatrao Deshmukh confirmed that police subinspector Sachin Suryavanshi was beaten up by Thakur and Kadam, who were arrested in the case last month. But, it said that the nature of injuries caused to the victim were not as serious as claimed.

Terming the conduct of Suryavanshi with Thakur on the Bandra Worli sea link on March 18 objectionable, the panel has recommended a departmental inquiry against the officer, who was suspended last month.
